MyCause.com's Privacy Policy

Our Goal

At MyCause, we support your desire to protect your privacy. MyCause is designed to provide as much protection as possible. Our method is simple: we maintain no information on individual customers nor any information linking particular customers to the purchases they make or the causes they support. Here's what information we do and do not have.

Information We Don't Collect

MyCause keeps it simple and secure:

MyCause requires no customer registration.
MyCause does not use browser cookies.
MyCause does not use Javascript.
MyCause does not use Java.
MyCause does not use Active-X.
MyCause does not capture any information to share with any advertisers or marketers.

All information on purchases, merchandise information, credit card numbers, etc. is gathered by our vendors, not by MyCause, so all purchase-related information travels between the customer and the vendor only. MyCause sees none of that traffic.

In fact, if customers bookmark the page of their cause, as we recommend, they leave our site after one page.

Some organizations have asked if we could tell them who has selected them for support, so they can send a thank you note. Because we do not collect this type of information, we cannot provide it to them. We are considering ways that we could provide this information to the supported organizations on a purely volunteer basis by individual customers.

Information We Do Collect

That said, the question arises, "What information do we collect and what do we do with it?"

IP Addresses in Web Server Log
Like all web servers, ours logs the IP address of machines that connect to us. This information is useful as an aggregate measure of our activity. Because many IP addresses are dynamically assigned, we have no way of tying them back to individual customers.

Causes that See Traffic
We track what causes are selected. This lets us know which causes are receiving "traffic." Only actual purchases at our vendors generate donations. We do not know what, if anything, a particular customer has purchased once they leave our site. Our vendors provide reports on revenue generated from sales in support of a particular cause.

Vendor Reports
Our vendors send us revenue reports. Included in them is a code that allows us to match revenue with a particular cause. Vendors do not provide us with IP numbers or any other identifying information about the customer.

Our vendors give us summaries of merchandise that was purchased. This information allows us to get an idea of the type of goods and services our customers like, and to try to seek vendors, or to highlight coupons, that feature these items. Again, we cannot link any of this information to individual customers.

Comments and Email
If you choose to email MyCause, we can see your return address. We archive our mail to help us track requests made by customers and people representing organizations. We never release or sell this information to outside parties. On occasion (typically once or twice a year), we may send mail to people we have been in contact with before to tell them of new services or features on MyCause. We maintain a list of people who have requested not to receive further messages and abide by that.

On our "contact us" page, we request an email address to enable us to respond. However, entering an email address is optional for those who wish to contact us anonymously.

Searches
We maintain a log of searches for causes. Again, no identifying information is associated with the searches. This allows us to assist people who are having difficulty finding their cause by seeing exactly the strings they used when performing a search.

How we protect our customers' privacy

We designed MyCause so that we simply have no information we could sell to advertisers.

We have no credit card numbers, social security numbers, or any other information that could put our customers at risk, financially or otherwise.

We have tried to create a web site that is easy to use and provides the desired functionality, connecting people to causes: local, regional, national, and international. We have also designed into the system, from the ground up, protections to ensure the privacy of those who use MyCause to help support their favorite causes.

If you have any further questions about our information privacy policy, please do not hessitate to contact us.
